GENERAL POLICIES:
· Attendance - follows the policy listed in the University catalog. According to the university catalog, excessive absence from a class means that the student has missed approximately 25 percent of the class. This class meets approximately 30 times, perhaps fewer if there are snow days or other cancellations, giving you a maximum of 6 absences for this class for the semester. Upon the 7th absence, you will be dropped from the course. Being late for class on 4 occasions is equivalent to one absence. Refer to the NCU web site at for more details on the University attendance policy.
· Plagiarism Policy - Academic dishonesty is a serious breach of conduct at North Central University and violations can result in serious discipline including the possibility of dismissal from the University. Academic dishonesty is defined as intentional plagiarism, cheating, fabrication or attempting to help others to be dishonest which includes but is not limited to, roster fraud and attendance deception. (Refer to academic integrity policy for detailed definitions and descriptions)
· Electronic Assignments - Students should plan ample personal time in the computer lab or on their own personal computer to complete the electronic assignments (2 hr. for every class hour). All electronic assignments will be prepared on a personal computer using Microsoft Office 2007 (PC) or other software as required by the assignment and as directed by the instructor. Do not turn in assignments using Office xp or 2003, MS Works, Word Perfect or Corel Office. Electronic assignments must be e-mailed as required to the instructor at rrmcconi@northcentral.edu
E-mailing the assignment as an attachment will constitute a portion of the grade. E-mail assignments MUST have your name, Student ID# and assignment title in the subject line. Printed copies will not be accepted as a substitute for the electronic copy.
· Print Assignments – Any print assignments will be prepared on a personal computer. In the footer, left justify your name, center the due date, and right justify the title of the assignment & page number, like so:
Ronald R. McConico ID # 12345 January 8, 2010 Syllabus Bus 120 Block A - Page 1
Be sure to use Microsoft Word's View Header and Footer command. Do not type headers and footers on each page manually. Let the software do it for you.
· Grading Criteria - All assignments are due at the BEGINNING of class on the due date. Exceptions will only be granted by PRIOR arrangement with the professor. Electronic assignments should be e-mailed to the instructor BEFORE class begins. (In the event of an e-mail system outage, an electronic copy on USB drive may be turned in at the beginning of class on the due date is acceptable. (However, since the ability to send an attachment by e-mail constitutes part of such grades, you may not receive full credit for substituting an electronic copy on floppy disk or CD.) You will be graded on Quizzes, Tests, and Home work assignments as follows.
Grading Scale:
A = 90.0%- 100.0%,

SYLLABUS ADDENDUM - January, 2010
GENERAL POLICIES:
·
Late Papers
Completed student assignments will be received at the beginning of class on the
due date. Completed assignments received later the same day (e.g. from someone
who is tardy, from someone who turns in the assignment later or at the end of
class, or from someone who slips it under the door of adjunct office by the end
of the school day) will receive a 10% dock for being late. Assignments turned in
late the day following class will receive a 20% dock. There will be an
additional 20% dock for every school day thereafter. For example, an assignment
due on Tuesday and turned in at the beginning of class would not be docked. An
assignment turned in later during the class or later that afternoon would
receive a 10% dock. As assignment turned in that Wednesday would receive a 20%
dock, Thursday would receive a 30% dock, Friday would receive a 40% dock, and an
assignment turned in the following Monday would receive an 70% dock. An
assignment turned in the following Tuesday would receive a 80% dock, so by that
point you don't need to turn it in.
· Retention of Graded Material
Students should retain copies of
all graded material until after they have received and verified their grade for
this class from the Registrar's office. If there is a discrepancy, your copies
may be required by the instructor to document your performance in the class and
to validate what your correct grade should have been. If you do not retain
copies of your work, the instructor may not be able to correct an error in your
grade. Do not throw papers away or delete computer files after receiving graded
material-at least not until after you have verified your grade from the
Registrar's office.
This is not so much a policy as a recommendation and a strong admonition. In
fact, I would recommend that you keep all work from all classes until after you
have verified all class grades for the semester. This could save you a lot of
heartache if there is a human error somewhere between the instructor's grade
book and the data entry in the Registrar's office. "To error is human; to really
foul things up requires a computer.” (And we’ve got them) After you have
verified your permanent grades from the Registrar's office, whether or not you
keep the material from your classes is up to you.
